Insulation resistance testing is used as a quality control measurement. The insulation resistance (IR) test (also commonly known as a Megger) is a spot insulation test which uses an applied DC voltage (typically either 250Vdc, 500Vdc or 1,000Vdc as suited to the equipment being tested.
Insulation testers can test and measure the performance or failure of insulation in or the insullated path within equipment, wire and in appliances.
Insulation testing is designed to diagnose and prevent the breakdown of the insulation in various parts of the electrical system such as wires, transformers and motors
In our selection of the best insullation testers we have included:
- Testers with the primary function is insullation testing and related tests.
- Multi-function testers who can also perform insullation testing. These are great value testers.
Caution: Insullation testers output a high voltage from their outlets and probes, so the user must be aware of this and do not touch the meter outputs or equipment during a test. It is also important to disconnect otehr equiment, sensituve componentry, from the circuit being tested, otherwise these may be damaged. Addioonally, select the correct insullation test voltage to not damage the primary circuit/equipment being tested.
